Sheila Ochner

Sheila wrote many of the core DEFINE modules, including the foundational pieces that posted transaction to the balances.

A working architect prior to becoming a programmer, Sheila designed the layout of the 8th floor of the Tower when it was remodeled, including Main 830 (aka “The Fishbowl”). Her pencil sketch “Broken Code” - a hand holding a broken strand of pearls over a crumpled-up page of Natural code with a view of file AQ-TRANSACTION on it - has graced the 8th floor for over 20 years.

Sheila served as a director in the Division of Housing and Food, and she put her architectural skills to use there in her design of San Jacinto residence hall.

Sheila was Director of Enterprise Information Systems in the mid-2000s. She instituted a standing team meeting on Thursdays called 11:11, which took place at that time.

She moved to UT System in the late 2000s, and was working on the UT Share project (conversion to PeopleSoft for UT System, UT Arlington, UT El Paso, UT San Antonio, UT Tyler, and UT Permian Basin) at the time of her death.

She died in September 2013 after a heart attack while hiking in Oregon. A photo memorial was assembled in her honor.
